A couple of months ago I made the first real stepping to the weird world of weddings taking a trip over Hazlewood Castle in Tadcaster. We was running late to attend the wedding fair because I was coaching at my gym http://www.BradfordMMA.com and picking up Kath the mother in law to be :).
It was a fair old drive, taking around 45minutes to get there from Bradford City Centre, the longer the trip took the more we discussed it might not be the venue because of the distance .... but we went any way.
After playing chicken with Big Range Rovers on the way in to the grounds because of the single road in and out we arrived to a stunning garden and grounds.
When head up towards the entrance of the castle it be came clear how late we was .... most of the out door business had started to pack away .... including the hog roast sandwiches. I was gutted, although the it would be nice to view the place Marie and I tie our knot ... thought chance of free food and drink was the real draw for me to come.
There was a big tent out side, which possibly had more free food to try ... not all was lost, but for now we head inside the venue. Inside it was very Victorian, there was 2 main rooms which was used for the wedding, we really liked the Victoria compared to the other area, which was featured on the TV program 4 weddings (http://skyliving.sky.com/four-weddings-uk-meet-the-brides/meet-the-brides-5) ... I thought it looked like a front room and nothing special.
The main room for the wedding breakfast (still not sure why it is called that) was very nice, well apart from the old picture on the wall over the fire place which had some old girl looking in to the room.... was not so keen on that.
We then went to the "Love Chapel" and this was the best part of the day (remember I had not been given and free food or drink yet) ... the chapel was very pretty and I could see my self getting married in there, there is a small picture below.
The Priest came over to talk to us, after he explained to us that the venue was not licensed to do the wedding we could have a blessing which could be done straight after the official wedding in the castle. He went of to say that the best part of this we can customise the blessing and make it personalised for us.
At this point I asked if he could "Rap" the wedding and enquired just how gangster he is, he broke out in to a little rap which ended "will you take this B*tch! I was very impressed with his free style skill as he had mad game, but Marie and I looked shocked that he swore. He was very good and the Chapel of love was brilliant.
OK ! enough .... yes the rapping Priest was brilliant, Yes the love Chapel is lovely but I have not driven all this way not to get free food. Marie and Kath went a wedding fair the week before and they got cupcakes .... damn it I WANT CUPCAKES! ... we headed to the big tent.
Inside at first glance there was very little in food, I panicked! There was 10 photographers and flower stuff .... wait ! A cheese stall !! Excellent it could not have been better, I bolted for the cheese stand while Marie and Kath stood trying to look interested at .... I have no idea .... I thought FREE CHEESE and ran.
I most of been stood like some crazy junkie trying to score ... because the cheese man would not make eye contact with me, I tried to pretend I was just looking .... I most of stood there for ages ... nothing ..... I walked away gutted .... we won't be using your company you tight fisted ....
In conclusion .... The Outside of the Castle was very pretty, in side it was a little disappointing, the love chapel was excellent and the Priest was the BOMB .... WORD!
But it is going to be a little too far away for our guest and the cheese guy didn't give me any free samples
